Where did the idea of the Warrior Momz Walk Across America come from? How was it conceived?
The idea for the walk was given to Warrior Mom Kay Ledson who hails from Australia.  We love how she describes it as a “download” from source.  When she received the message about doing the walk she immediately embraced it and set things in motion.  The QUAD Foundation embraced it as well and decided to make the walk its primary project in the back half of 2017/2018.
What exactly is a Warrior Mom and what do “momz

When our children suffered a spinal cord injury, we wanted to do something, anything, to make it better, to make a difference. While this initiative involves family members and friends from every corner of the world, we know that Moms really run the show and get the job done. Love motivation, it’s a powerful mom thing! Warrior means biggest advocate, champion, and supporter.  They will
do their very best to move heaven and earth for their kids.  And the “z” on momz is Aussie.

What are the dates of the Walk?
September 22, 2017 to March 18, 2018
If I want to support Warrior Momz Walk why do I write my check to QUAD Foundation, Inc?
The QUAD Foundation was started by another mother of a spinal cord injured son, Pete Flynn, and a small group of her amazing friends back in 2003, and is dedicated to helping this community. They jumped at the chance to sponsor Kay Ledson and her Warrior Momz Walk help to raise funds for activity-based therapy in every city along Kay’s route across America.
Is my donation tax deductible?

The QUAD Foundation is a nonprofit charity. As such, it is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Therefore your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law. You can consult your financial planner or tax advisor to determine the exact tax advantages of any gift you make.  We provide a tax receipt for all tax deductible
donations.  If you need a copy of the tax receipt statement or need a receipt for your annual giving please email us at

What are the goals or desired outcomes of the Warrior Momz Walk Across America?
The walk will raise $1 million+ for activity-based recovery therapy scholarships through direct donations and sponsorships and by partnering with recovery related foundations.  It will also directly impact and build community support for activity based therapy centers and families in our major walk cities.
Where is the money raised going? How will it be used?
The money raised will be distributed to partnering non-profit activity-based therapy centers for therapy scholarships.
Who will be walking and how far? What is the route?
Kay Ledson is the primary walker and she is walking approximately 3150 miles from Carlsbad, CA to Washington DC at an average of 22 ½ miles per day. Please see the route map on our website.  Others will join her in walking stretches along the way.
Why is Kay walking across the country? Isn’t there an easier way to raise money? Why isn’t she walking across Australia? (I mean besides the crocodiles…)
Kay spent quite a lot of time here in America at different times and knew she loved it and one day wanted to call it home.  She and her son Josh spent considerable time here receiving activity-based therapy as a part of his spinal cord injury recovery and connecting with non-profits in the U.S. activity-based therapy community.
What exactly is activity-based therapy?

We know from clinical trials and years of anecdotal discoveries that activity-based therapy
brings about recovery in these patients, as well as improvements in muscle mass, bone density and cardiovascular health. Examples of activity-based therapies are treadmill therapy, FES (functional
electronic stimulation) therapy.

How many people in the US have a spinal cord injury? What doesn’t their insurance pay for this therapy?
How does someone with a spinal cord injury apply for a therapy scholarship?

Applicants will be vetted by local partnering non-profit
organizations tied to the cities and towns along the route where therapy
will take place. Applications will be collected by the QUAD Foundation and then forwarded to the closest organization for final selection. Unfortunately, only clients close to these centers will be able to participate. For the rest of our paralyzed community, we will be lobbying our lawmakers in Washington DC at the end of the Walk to make these therapies available and affordable to everyone living with a spinal cord injury.

How can I help?
