Blog # 31   7 MILLION STEPS – CONNECTING WITH ROTARIANS

Since commencing the Warrior Momz Walk I have attended Rotary Club meetings in Carlsbad, Albuquerque, Santa Rosa and Oklahoma City (attended 3 Clubs).

I really enjoy attending the meetings as it gives me a sense of “normal!”

I find the walking very isolating, it’s fantastic when I have someone walking with me, and the miles are certainly a lot easier… so Rotary provides me with community!

I have attended a large meeting with over 100 members to small clubs where there were only 6-7 attendees; all the clubs have made me feel so welcome!

Most clubs have made some sort of donation or helped in some way.

At all clubs, except one, I have had the opportunity as a visitor to speak for 2-3 minutes. In 2 clubs I have been given a little more time.

When speaking, albeit briefly, I mention our goal to raise money for Activity Based Therapy then briefly discuss how clubs can be more active in their own communities when they hear someone has sustained a spinal cord injury.

In truth, I love simply chatting to the members, they are all very interested in the Walk, and have been very supportive.

AND AS I SAID IT GIVES ME THAT NORMAL ‘TIME’ IF ONLY FOR A FEW HOURS!

I am really appreciating more and more the importance of Rotary to not only their communities but as a collective entity globally.
